Principals Message Board

What a wonderful start to the school year we’ve had here at Westerly High School! Walking through the halls these first few weeks, I’ve been reminded again of what makes WHS such a special place. Our students have jumped right in—showing excitement for learning, supporting one another, and bringing a great deal of school spirit to both the classrooms and the athletic fields.

Our teachers also came back energized after a summer of professional learning. They spent time preparing for how to use new AI tools in the classroom and exploring ways to keep students even more engaged in their learning. That preparation is already showing up in the creative lessons and strong classroom connections I’ve seen.

Sports seasons are in full swing, and the energy at games has been incredible. At the same time, we are approaching our first round of interim grade submissions, which is a good opportunity for students to reflect on their progress and set goals for the weeks ahead. We’re also excited for the Homework Club to kick off on September 23, offering students another way to get support and stay on track. And of course, one of the highlights of the fall—the Academic Pep Rally—is just around the corner on September 24. This is always a fun celebration of the many ways our students excel beyond athletics, and I can ’t wait to see the energy it brings to our school.

At WHS, we work hard to create an environment where students are challenged academically while also being encouraged to lead, to try new things, and to enjoy the journey along the way.
It’s shaping up to be a terrific year, and I am so proud of the strong start we’ve made together.

Thank you, parents and families, for the encouragement and support you provide every day. Your partnership makes all the difference, and together we are helping our students grow into well-rounded, confident young people ready to take on new challenges.
