Principals Message Board
Dear Bulldog Nation,
On behalf of the entire WHS faculty and staff we hope you are having a wonderful summer filled with fun and time for relaxing. Soon it will be time to kickstart our journey of learning. The ‘24-25 school year begins with anticipation for new beginnings, exciting adventures, and fresh challenges. The slate is clean, let’s start this exciting new chapter together. Remember, learning is a continuous journey of growth and development, it also enables us to grow in self confidence and in empathy toward others.
WHS is known for its educational excellence, and this hasn’t happened by chance. It’s the result of our dedicated staff members, supportive parents, and of course, wonderful students like you. Our school is also a space where education goes beyond textbooks. At WHS, we strive for education to stimulate joy, curiosity, and a deep-seated desire to solve problems and contribute to society. Our teachers and administrators are working over the summer to plan exciting new lessons and activities that will stimulate your curiosity and foster your love of learning. The custodial staff are working tirelessly to complete renovations in various areas of the building while the staff are busy preparing for opening day. We will continue to focus on the culture and climate at WHS making school a positive destination for all students.
A strong work ethic, an ability to perseverance, and a thirst for knowledge – are important values we hold dear WHS. Let's remember to integrate these values into our daily tasks and interactions with others. It is with these values in mind that we should approach our studies and strive for excellence, not just in academics, but in every endeavor we undertake.
During the summer, WHS migrated to a new student information system (SIS) causing a delay in student schedules being available by the end of school. Not all students were enrolled in every class they requested, some changes were required. If you have your schedule for the ‘24-25 school year; please note we will NOT be making any schedule changes except for the reasons listed below. If your request includes a reason listed below you should email your school counselor.
- Scheduled for less than 7 credits
- Passed a course on your schedule
- Have not met prerequisite course requirements
- Sequential courses out of order (ie: Film 2 before Film 1)
- Senior missing graduation requirement
We are excited to share that WHS will host Freshman First Night on August 27th from 6-8 pm at Westerly High School, 23 Ward Ave., Westerly. The event will take place in Babcock Hall Auditorium, across the quad from the high school. We hope all freshman students and their families will attend! On this night, students and their families will tour the building, become acquainted with student expectations, obtain their Chromebook, meet members of the staff, and more. Please mark your calendars!
We will continue to post on our social media handle @whs_bulldog. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. For more information visit our website at www.wpsri.org. Please pay close attention to our social media and your email for more specific school opening information as the first day of school, September 3, 2023 approaches.
